Peach Ginger Summertime Cocktail

When it’s hot and humid, it’s the perfect time to put our bourbon on ice and turn it into something sippable. We’re going to start off with the perfect quick and easy summer cocktail, and one that’s a great way to highlight the peach notes in the SWMBH Woodinville pick currently available at Hoffman’s Party Store on Westnedge just south of I-94.
To a shaker tin, add 4 ounces of strong cold black tea, 2 ounces of bourbon, 1 ounce of peach purée or rich peach syrup*, .75 ounce fresh lemon juice, and a small piece of peeled ginger that you’ve bruised with the side of a knife (if you’ve got a muddler, give the ginger a few presses to release the juice). Add ice and shake, then strain over fresh ice and garnish with a lemon wheel and sprig of mint.
You can make your own at home using fresh peaches, or you can purchase a pre-made purée or syrup in a grocery or liquor store (Since it was included in a gift box from a cocktail competition I ended up using some Reàl peach syrup here, but brands like Monin/Torani/Finest Call are also widely available and all of these brands will last a long time in your cabinet or refrigerator). If you want to make peach purée fresh, simply blend two very ripe peaches with a squeeze of lemon juice and a teaspoon of sugar. This would also be a great spot to incorporate that fresh ginger instead of when you build the cocktail for a heavier ginger zing.
